Here’s Looking at You
By Ian DeSousa
Hello, Fellow Re:Union-Goers
A few weeks ago Brenton, our marvelous multimedia maker, told me about this outstanding idea he had. Now, Brenton’s an idea man through-and-through. When he’s not brainstorming ways to capture that elusive SOTRU story through the creative use of media, he’s strategizing effective ways to involve our audience and encourage them to tell stories about their communities. So, a clever concept from his area of the office is nothing new. But his plan for The My Community in One Picture Project, well this idea is absolutely genius.
Simply take a picture that you personally feel captures the essence of your community. It can be as casual or as formal as you like, any subject that represents your community through your eyes. You can use a camera, a smart phone, a phone of average intelligence, even art materials if you’re so inclined…Just capture the image and email it to email@example.com with the subject “My Community in One Picture” (please remember to put your name, the name of your community, the subject of your photo, and the photo title if it has one).
Send us a single snapshot that represents community to you. A simple, easy way to tell a story of your community. Then encourage your friends and family to do the same and help us compile a collection of images that reflect community as people see it today*.
If you’re feeling extra-participatory, you can even join the conversation on our website or through your favorite form of social media. We’ll highlight one image every day in August through our Twitter Account @SOTRU and provide regular updates on our FaceBook page.
The only thing missing from this prodigious plan is your participation.
Snap it, send it, share it, and don’t delay. The deadline is July 31st, and the project just won’t be the same without your picture. Now then, say, “Cheese”!
